My Road Beyond The Codependent Divorce

I read this book first before I read the author’s first book, The Road Back To Me. I loved this book also! I recommend this book to everyone! I have never been married but have been in a long-term relationship. I think we all can relate to this story. It is enjoyable to read, another book I didn’t want to put down. The author puts into words her experiences and feelings so creatively that you just become so absorbed with her story. It evokes your emotions and gets you thinking about your own life experiences!

I was in my mid thirties by the time I began understanding that I had lived my entire life unaware I was unaware. When my therapist diagnosed me with depression and codependency, I was as shocked as I was relieved. Finally, there was a name for the craziness I had been feeling. During my journey towards self actualization, I had to start telling my truth. As a recovering codependent, the thought of admitting how unhappily married I was paralyzed me. Conditioned to deny my own needs, emotions, and wants, speaking my truth excited all of my abandonment issues. Within me I felt deeply broken and believing I had a right to admit that I was unhappily married was not something that came natural. Accepting how unhappy I was turned out to be a breakthrough moment. If I wanted my children to one day be able to tell their truth, I had to learn to tell my truth first. Yes, that meant my children and I were going to have to leave the only world they ever knew behind, and no, there was no guarantee they would understand just how necessary it was to do so. I wrote this book to help encourage men and women who are on the codependent recovery path, who may be facing a separation and or a divorce. We need all the encouragement we can get to believe the suffering we and our family will endure is necessary and will be worth it in the end. Happily married now, living a non-codependent life, I can attest to the fact that the fight for your emotional independence is worth every tear. Keep going!
