What is the problem with trying to be perfect? This pamphlet describes our struggle to be perfect and how it hinders our growth in recovery, and suggests using the Twelve Step program to help us let go of perfectionistic habits and behaviors.
Excerpt from the introduction:
“As perfectionistic people, we simply expect too much of ourselves and others. Our attitudes keep us from using recovery methods, including the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, which could lead us to a contented sobriety. People with perfectionistic values are true children of our individualistic society. They feel they must solve their problem of being chemically dependent by fighting it and trying to defeat it. But this problem will not be resolved through will power or attempts to control ourselves or other people.”
