Learning to Manage Anxiety & Panic Attacks
Authors: Judith Bemis & AMR Barrada
For those who know the palm-sweating, heart-pounding, breath-stealing terror of anxiety and panic attacks, Embracing the Fear offers both compassion and practical solutions. Written by two recovering agoraphobics, this book provides step-by-step strategies to manage anxiety disorders, phobias, panic attacks, and agoraphobia.
Instead of avoiding fear, the authors encourage readers to accept anxiety, take risks, and transform fearful self-talk with constructive inner dialogue. Drawing on their own recovery journeys, they provide practical tools such as visualization, meditation, and reframing techniques to help reclaim freedom from overwhelming fear.
Judith Bemis, a recovered agoraphobic, first experienced panic attacks in 1965 while pursuing postgraduate work at the University of Minnesota. After years of struggle, she found lasting recovery through cognitive therapy. Determined to share her freedom with others, she founded Open Door Outreach, Inc., a support network for people with anxiety disorders, and has served as director and facilitator since 1986. She has spoken widely on anxiety, published the Open Door Quarterly Newsletter, and continues to help others through in vivo therapy.
AMR Barrada collaborated with Bemis to bring together both clinical insight and lived experience in this groundbreaking guide.
