Author: Thich Nhat Hanh
Walking is something we all do every day — but with mindfulness, each step can become a moment of peace, presence, and joy.
In How to Walk, Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh shows how the simple act of mindful walking transforms ordinary movement into a profound spiritual practice. By combining slow, focused steps with mindful breathing, we can release stress, recapture wonder, and remember that each step is an arrival.
Through gentle instruction and engaging stories, Nhat Hanh demonstrates how mindful walking can bring aliveness to our daily routines, uplift our mental health, and reconnect us with gratitude for the Earth beneath our feet. Whether practiced on a busy commute or a quiet trail, walking meditation becomes a doorway to concentration, healing, and joy.
Pocket-sized and beautifully illustrated by Jason DeAntonis, How to Walk makes an inspiring companion for anyone seeking balance and presence in everyday life.
The Mindfulness Essentials series has appeared on:
“The monk who taught the world mindfulness.” — TIME
“Thich Nhat Hanh shows us the connection between personal inner peace and peace on earth.” — His Holiness the Dalai Lama
“Thich Nhat Hanh is a holy man, for he is humble and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to world brotherhood, to humanity.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Thich Nhat Hanh (1926–2022) was a Vietnamese Zen master, poet, peace activist, and spiritual teacher whose teachings introduced mindfulness to the West. Author of over 100 books—including Peace Is Every Step and The Miracle of Mindfulness—he spent more than seven decades teaching the art of mindful living. Exiled from Vietnam in 1966, he later founded the Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism in France, now the largest Buddhist monastery in Europe and the center of a worldwide mindfulness movement. He passed away in 2022 at age 95 at his root temple, Tu Hieu, in Hue, Vietnam.
