Intervention
For Families and Friends of Chemically Dependent Persons
How to Help Someone Who Doesn’t Want Help
Author: Dr. Vernon E. Johnson, DD
Overview
How do you help someone who refuses to admit they need it? In Intervention, Dr. Vernon Johnson—pioneering Episcopal priest and recovering alcoholic—outlines the breakthrough method that has motivated thousands of chemically dependent people to accept treatment.
With clarity and compassion, Johnson explains how chemical dependency affects not only the addicted individual, but also spouses, children, coworkers, and entire communities. Most importantly, he shows families and friends that intervention is not primarily a clinical procedure but a personal process of love, honesty, and unity—one that can bring healing and reconciliation.
This concise and practical guide remains one of the most influential texts on addiction intervention, offering both hope and concrete steps for families desperate to help a loved one.
