Overcoming Addiction and Codependency on the Path to Self-Love
Author: Sherry Danner
Overview
Both memoir and guide, Nurturing the Light Inside is a raw, compassionate exploration of how shame fuels addiction and how learning self-love can transform everything. Through a series of deeply personal essays, Sherry Danner chronicles her struggles with alcohol abuse, codependency, body image, trauma, and the complex relationships that shaped her journey to recovery.
Danner doesn’t shy away from painful truths: the trauma of sexual assault, relationships built in recovery that ended in heartbreak, and friendships entangled in alcohol. Yet through spiritual awakening, unconventional healing, and a renewed commitment to self-love, she demonstrates that recovery is not only possible but can become the foundation for freedom, purpose, and joy.
Each essay concludes with thought-provoking questions and prompts designed to help readers reflect, write, or engage in small-group discussions. In the final chapters, she shares practical tools to overcome perfectionism and shame, cultivate self-love, and set healthy boundaries.
