A Cross-Cultural Journey Through Depression and Healing
Author: Gayathri Ramprasad
About the Book
Shadows in the Sun is a groundbreaking literary memoir that offers a first-of-its-kind cross-cultural exploration of mental illness. Gayathri Ramprasad courageously chronicles her thirty-year battle with depression, from her childhood in India — where mental illness was considered a curse — to her journey in America, where she ultimately discovered healing through both her Hindu heritage and Western medicine.
From growing up surrounded by jasmine blossoms and Hindu deities in Bangalore to experiencing terrifying internal battles of despair, Gayathri’s story is one of survival, transformation, and hope. Her memoir shines a light on the cultural stigmas surrounding mental illness and offers an inspiring message that healing is possible when we combine courage, compassion, and cross-cultural understanding.
