Inspiring Stories from the Frontlines of the Battle Against Addiction
Author: Joani Gammill
On the surface, Joani Gammill was a typical suburban mom. Behind closed doors, however, she was secretly addicted to multiple opiates and amphetamines—a struggle that nearly cost her life. Her turning point came through a life-changing intervention staged by Dr. Phil on national television. Not only did Joani commit to recovery, she went on to dedicate her life to helping others as one of the country’s most recognized professional interventionists.
In The Interventionist, Joani weaves her own riveting story of addiction and recovery with powerful accounts of the families and individuals she’s helped along the way. Each chapter recounts a different client’s unique battle with addiction—illustrating the devastation of substance abuse, the courage of loved ones who seek help, and the transformational power of intervention.
Raw, unflinching, and ultimately hopeful, Joani’s story—and the equally moving stories of those she’s worked with—demonstrates that no matter how hopeless addiction may seem, recovery is always possible. Life beyond drugs and alcohol can be not only sustainable, but more meaningful and rewarding than ever before.
“Exuding the same passion and purpose as the author herself, Joani Gammill's The Interventionist is a heartfelt game changer and long overdue. You deserve to read it.” — Dr. Phil McGraw, host of CBS’s nationally syndicated show Dr. Phil
“The Interventionist is a clear, concise, and honest book—nothing is sugar-coated in this story, which is the way most memoirs with addiction overtones should be told.” — L. Anne Carrington, The BookShelf
Joani Gammill, a former RN, is best known as Dr. Phil’s leading interventionist, appearing regularly on his nationally syndicated television show where her powerful interventions inspired millions of viewers.
