Step 12 is about helping others in order to help ourselves. This pamphlet explains how we can best keep of program of A.A. by giving it away.

“You can’t keep it without giving it away.” This basic truth sums up Step Twelve. The pioneers of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) learned this the hard way: the best way to stay out of the bottle is to help another drunk. And this  powerful principle has since been applied to a wide range of other addictions…. In Step Twelve we try to give back some of what we’ve gained. We carry the message to others and learn more about ourselves in the process.  As we ‘pass it on’ we experience the joy that comes from helping others and nurturing our spiritual growth.”
